Engagement, Retention & Commitment — Strengthening Volunteer Leadership and Member Connection

On January 29, 2026, volunteer leaders from across Alabama gathered for the ALSHRM Volunteer Leaders’ Business Meeting (VLBM) at the Holiday Inn Birmingham- Hoover, marking an energizing start to the year for ALSHRM.

The meeting brought together chapter and state council leaders for a day of collaboration, connection, and forward-thinking conversations. Attendees shared updates, aligned on strategic priorities, and explored new ideas to strengthen chapters and enhance the member experience across the state.

Beyond the business sessions, the VLBM provided meaningful opportunities for networking and peer learning, reinforcing the strong sense of community that defines ALSHRM’s volunteer leadership. The enthusiasm and dedication in the room set a positive tone for 2026 and highlighted the impactful work being done to support HR professionals throughout Alabama.

Supporting & Celebrating HR Professionals
SHRM Foundation and SHRM work hard to support and celebrate everyone who makes up the HR profession from students to emerging professionals to seasoned leaders. To do that, each year, SHRM Foundation: 
  • Provides over $400,000 in scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students studying the field of HR. 
  • Provides over $200,000 in grants for emerging and established HR professionals seeking to advance their existing career in HR through conference attendance, credentialing, or certification. 
  • Celebrates the accomplishments of emerging, mid-career, and established leaders in the field of HR through a variety of awards programs, including the Leadership Awards, the Tharseo Awards, and the Pinnacle Awards. 
The SHRM Foundation also offers a robust HR mentorship program and HR Registered Apprenticeship Program
